Tasha Katsuba

Artist, Fashion Designer

In May 2022, I relocated from Ukraine to Poland due to the War. Since May 2022, I have been living and working in Gdańsk, Poland.

I actively participate in national and international exhibitions and festivals. I was among the top three young artists at the annual art festival called »Salon d’Automne« in Minsk, where works from over 600 artists from across Belarus were showcased.

In 2020, my first solo exhibition titled »HOME« took place at the Palace of Fine Arts in Minsk.

…-”The main characteristic of my artistic work is its autobiographical nature. If we consider the created pieces, we can clearly trace the connection between the chosen medium and the personal stage of life. In my works, I do not hide my feelings towards the concept.

I adopt a diary-like narrative style and explore the world of human relationships with myself

or the viewer. Until 2020, the focus of my creative practice revolved around my own unique self and its relationships within the closest circle of my family, particularly with my parents and our family home.

Besides gradually opening up on a personal level and transforming the experience of these same themes, the unifying element of my artistry lies in the use of diverse materials and the pursuit of blurring the boundaries between artistic forms of expression.

Therefore, in 2018, epoxy resin and textiles became the dominant elements in my paintings, and by 2021, working with textiles and costumes became a priority.

After the outbreak of protests in Belarus, I created several costumes that reflected the sentiments of many people. These costumes generated significant resonance among the supportive society of the protests. Photos of the projects spread worldwide and were exhibited in Lithuania, Poland, and Sweden, thereby illustrating the situation in my country. In

2021, amidst internal changes, I moved from a different part of Minsk to a rural area near Brest. During this time, I actively began working with textiles, producing clothing, and establishing my personal brand.

The sharp transition to costume design is not a coincidence. Apart from a genuine interest in materials and forms, there was also a desire to transform what is happening into a theatrical spectacle and negate the reality of violence”.
